Based on the 12th century Persian poem by Farid ud-din Attar, The Conference of the Birds is an allegorical Sufi tale of the search for the Divine. The birds of the world gather and agree to leave everything they know behind and travel through seven valleys to a remote mountain where a mythological king named the Simorgh resides. Led by the Hoopoe bird, the birds encounter tests and trials along the way and in the end only 30 remain.
