Show Dates: June 28, 29 & July 5,6,12,13; all 7:30pm
The play: A feast of wit, outrageous clowning, and crazy plot twists as Kate and Petruchio negotiate their way through a “subversive and challenging love story.” Welcome to Renaissance-era Padua, Italy, where these two unconventional people meet, fight (a lot), and eventually (after a lot of fighting) fall in love. The storyline features plenty of your favorite Shakespearean twists, hilarious buffoons, and ridiculous disguises. Starring Bay Area favorites Carla Pantoja as Katherina and Tim Kniffin as Petruchio.
Good to know: Appropriate for all ages. No tickets or reservations are required, so come early for choice vantage points on the lawn. No seating is provided; blankets and low chairs are permitted. Snacks and beverages are for sale at the Free Shakes Concession Stand, with all proceeds going directly to support the program. And BYO picnicking is encouraged!
Each performance is preceded by a Green Show, a half-hour before show time, featuring the Intern Company, which provides additional background on Shakespeare and the play in a lively family-friendly format.
