A Piece of Cultural Heritage Awaits You at V Marketplace
Montecristi Panama Hats offers a once in a lifetime demonstration

Montecristi Panama Hats is proud to announce the very special appearance of master weaver Yovanni Mero Pachano at their Yountville location on the second floor of V Marketplace.

Ecuadorian Yovanni Mero Pachano is from the village of Montecristi where the best Panama Hats are created. Mr. Mero, a fifth generation weaver was born into the world of this unique art and craftsmanship which was added to the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Intangible Cultural Heritage List. The famed Panama Hat, which is actually made in Ecuador, got its famous name because it was first shipped to Panama and from there out to the rest of the world.

Montecristi Panama Hats would like the public to stop in and gain an amazing insight and experience as Mr. Mero demonstrates the time honored process that has changed very little from its creation 400 years ago.
“The high standard of craftsmanship that goes into the making of these hats is astonishing. I hope people will see the uniqueness of Yovanni’s and the other Ecuadorian weavers ability and come away with a better understanding of how important it is that we embrace the skilled workmanship and cultural heritage of not only the hat weavers of Ecuador, but of all artists around the world.” says Mercedes Anda, owner of Montecristi Panama Hats. Watch as Mr. Mero weaves, blocks, cleans and more. You will not want to miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to watch a master weaver with his art.
